The Jags Trust
Trust the Jags to be different!
On Saturday 22 August 1998 Partick Thistle supporters made a little bit of Scottish football history when they met to inaugurate The Jags Trust, to approve a constitution and to elect its first office bearers. That, in itself, was nothing particularly newsworthy.
The difference was that the first Chairperson of The Jags Trust, Maggie Forsyth, then took a seat on the Board of Partick Thistle FC Ltd, and did so with the backing of one of the largest shareholdings in the club. Maggie served two terms in office before handing over to Gordon D Peden who Chaired the Trust, and sat on the Board as an ex officio Director, from 2002-2006. The current Chair, and representative on the Board of PTFC Ltd is Willie Arthur who may be contacted at chair@jagstrust.com.
In the wake of the Save The Jags´ Campaign which kept Thistle afloat, the funds raised (c£125,000) were translated into shares in the club.
So each member of The Jags´ Trust became a part-owner of 1,000,000 shares in the club, and the Trust´s representative went to the board room table with clout!
The Trust is all about ownership and responsibility!
Ownership of 1,000,000 shares in our club and responsibility for helping get Partick Thistle back where we think that they belong in Scottish football. Our club was at the lowest ebb in its´ history and to get out of the mire required a superhuman effort on the part of all concerned.
The Jags´ Trust is part of that continuing effort and now plays an integral part in shaping the future direction of Partick Thistle FC.
For the first time, supporters of a Scottish League club had a genuine voice in the running of their club, and the Trusts´ massive share holding makes it a voice that must be listened to.
The Jags´ Trust Committee comprises representatives of all sections of our support including Season Ticket Holders, Supporters Clubs, the 800 Club, the Goldline Lottery and the Business Club. We also welcome anyone who is keen to get involved on a personal level – even if only to help with a specific project.
The Jags´ Trust continues to raise funds to support the club and seeks to do this in ways which are complementary to the activities of the other ´Thistle´ organisations.
Individual membership of the Trust costs just £5.00 a year, while family memberships are £10. For that you get a facsimile share certificate each year (design changes each year) and you become a joint holder of 1,000,000 shares in The Partick Thistle Football Club Ltd.
The Trust is always seeking more members, and more ideas, so make sure that you are part of the Jags´ Trust and that through it your voice is heard as a part owner of something that is part of all our lives!
