It's Scottish Cup time again at the weekend and Thistle take the road and miles to Inverness for a fourth round tie with SPL Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Despite Inverness sitting a division above Thistle this is a tie that we approach with belief and confidence in equal measure. Last Saturday Thistle bounced right back into form with an excellent 4-2 win against Clyde in a highly entertaining fixture.
Coupled with that we have an excellent record against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup.
Twice previously the two teams have been paired together in Scotland's premier cup competition. In season 2001/2002 a Firhill quarter-final finished 2-2 before a memorable Scott Paterson goal settled the replay on a wet and wild night in Inverness and sent Thistle through to the last four of the competition.
Just a little under three years ago it was another dramatic replay victory for Thistle, this time at Firhill. Two Mark Roberts goals, the latter of which was a injury time penalty, earned Second Division Thistle a 2-2 draw in Inverness. Roberts was again on target in the replay but with the teams locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra-time the tie was settled by penalties. After heroics from keeper Kenny Arthur it was left to Will Snowdon to sink the penalty that earned Thistle a famous win.
That though is history and it is to the future that we are presently looking to and with that in mind Ian McCall was able to provide www.ptfc.co.uk with all the latest team news just before the team bus departed Firhill for an overnight stay in Inverness.
"As Thistle fans will now know we signed Kris Doolan earlier today and he will go straight into the squad for this game and hopefully he will take up a position on the bench."
"Unfortunately Ian Maxwell won't travel up to Inverness with us and neither will Stephen McKeown. Stephen is still being troubled by his hamstring injury and we are going to try and get him an appointment with a chiropractor sometime next week and in an attempt to resolve his problem as he is obviously a key player for us."
"Steven Lennon and Ryan McStay aren't part of the squad for tomorrow's match and Michael Robertson and Ryan MacBeth are added to the squad. Not just because we require to have two outfield under 21 players tomorrow but because they have been performing consistently well for the reserves."
