 Match Preview

Tomorrow afternoon we put the pursuit of league points to one side and instead concentrate, we hope for longer than just 90 minutes, on Scotland's premier cup competition, the Scottish Cup.

The visit of SPL Dundee United presents a not inconsiderable challenge but one that everyone inside Firhill is clearly relishing.

As always www.ptfc.co.uk caught up with manager Ian McCall for all the latest team news.

"Jamie Adams will be unavailable as Kilmarnock do not want him to the cup tied. It's disappointing but we expected that and it is a perfectly understandable thing for Kilmarnock to do. Jamie will at some point be returning to Rugby Park and if they are still in the competition at that point they would obviously want Jamie to be available to them."

"Elsewhere Stephen McKeown is the only player that is unfit as his hamstring injury will cause him to sit this one out. The rules of the competition state that we need to have two players under the age of 21 included in the 16 and with that in mind Ryan MacBeth and Ross McGeough have been added to the squad. That isn't really a problem as Ryan in particular has been knocking on the door for inclusion in the first team squad in any case. He has just been unfortunate in that the options that we have in midfield has made it difficult to accommodate him in the first team."

"Having two players under 21 in the squad of 16 does mean though that there is really just two slots available on the substitute bench and that means that some players who might otherwise have featured will be disappointed but we just need to abide by the rules of the competition."

"We are still presently awaiting on clearance for Greg Shields and we are really keen to try and get that sorted as Greg will stand a good chance of starting this match if we can get his clearance in time. He's been training with us now for a couple of weeks as well as featuring in some bounce matches and he's looking fit. He has played in plenty of big games in the past and wouldn't be at all fazed at making his debut against Dundee United tomorrow."

"Tomorrow's game is one that we are really looking forward to, the kind of game we want to be involved in on a regular basis in the league and not just cup competitions. When we play in First Division there is an expectation that we should win every time we step onto the pitch. Tomorrow we will not have that kind of expectation to deal with and in many respects the pressure will be off us. We are at home though and in general we have done well at home since I've been manager here. We really want to try and make home advantage count tomorrow."
