Match Preview
Tomorrow afternoon Thistle complete the first quarter of the league season and do so with the most intriguing and anticipation match of the season thus far.
Big spending Dundee were installed at the overwhelming pre-season favourites for the First Division title but while they have lost just one fixture all season and last weekend reached the ALBA Challenge Cup Final it is Thistle and not they that presently top the First Division.
After the problems of the last few weeks Thistle are approaching this important but by no means, this early in the season, pivotal fixture in fine fettle as manager Ian McCall revealed to www.ptfc.co.uk.
"John Robertson, Paul Paton, Paul Cairney and Simon Donnelly, who were the four hit the worst by the virus over the last couple if weeks, all trained on Thursday and will be fine to play against Dundee. We were also boosted by the return of Stephen McKeown to training and he will be part of the squad that will make the trip to Dundee tomorrow. Also included in the squad will be young Ryan MacBeth. Ryan was injured at the start of the season but he is fit once more and starting to do the things that we expect of him."
"We aren't quite at full strength, however, as Paddy Boyle and Martyn Corrigan are both still out with their hamstring injuries. Both though are expected to rejoin us for training at the start of next week so I am not too far away from having a full squad to work with which is excellent news."
"Looking ahead to tomorrow's game it is without doubt a fixture to relish. It's not too often that we are involved in the biggest game in Scotland and I fully expect that there will be a 6,000+ crowd inside Dens Park tomorrow. Hopefully that crowd will contain a sizeable number of Thistle fans and I know for a fact that they will give us some fantastic backing."
"As much as this is a game to look forward to it almost goes without saying to point out that the outcome of the match won't decide the destination of the league title. We are really keen to win this match and a Thistle victory would be sure to make a few people sit up and notice but we are under absolutely no illusions as to just how tough it will be to record a victory."
