Partick Thistle Football Club

 Match Preview

The competitive action may be well and truly underway this season but attention this evening switches to a friendly match or to be strictly accurate to Alan Archibald's Testimonial match with a Liverpool XI.

Alan, despite a sabbatical spent in Dundee for a few years, is one of a select few in the last 25 years to have made over 300 first team appearances for Partick Thistle and it is hoped that the Thistle fans turn out in force tonight to pay tribute to Alan.

It's 'Pay on the Gate' tonight with prices set at £10 for adults and £5 concessions. The North Stand has been set aside for the Liverpool support and we hope to extend a warm, friendly Firhill welcome to those Liverpool fans that come to Firhill tonight.

Manager Ian McCall was able to provide www.ptfc.co.uk with the latest team news for this match.

"I'm looking forward to seeing us test ourselves against some very highly regarded young players at Liverpool, by all accounts some are a bit special. Our intention is to try and give everyone a run out at some point during the 90 minutes. We do, however, have two players that will miss out. Liam Buchanan and Stephen McKeown will sit this one out after picking up injuries. Both should be absolutely fine for Saturday's game with Ross County but we don't want to risk them tonight when they could possibly aggravate their injuries."

"The good news though is that Alan himself will lead the Thistle team out tonight and will play the first 45 minutes of tonight's match. I have the highest regard for Alan, I signed him for Dundee United after all, and he is a tremendous professional and thoroughly deserves his testimonial match tonight. I would urge as many Thistle fans as possible to turn out tonight ton acknowledge the contribution that Alan has made to Partick Thistle Football Club."

In addition to appealing prospect of facing a Liverpool XI there is some half-time entertainment on offer this evening. The irrepressible Chic Charnley will be competing against current Assistant Manager Gerry Britton and Coach Ian Cameron in a crossbar challenge.
