Partick Thistle Football Club

 Match Preview

Tomorrow afternoon Thistle's pre-season itinerary takes us out to Cumbernauld ensuring that despite their relegation last season we will have at least one meeting this season with Clyde.

Although billed as a friendly, matches between the two sides are invariably keenly contested and with the competitive action just a further 7 days away this is seen as the ideal preparation.

Broadwood had been a venue from which Thistle found it difficult to prise points from but since Ian McCall took over the managerial reigns at Firhill we are unbeaten on Clyde's home patch. Clyde, however, were able to place a sizeable dent into Thistle's then promotion hopes when they won 1-0 at Firhill the last time the two teams met.

It's troubled times down Broadwood way at present. Their well documented financial problems led to a cull on the playing side over the summer and it is unclear as to who exactly with fill the home team's jerseys tomorrow. A series of open trials, which have proved successful for Clyde in the past, took place but as yet no one has been recruited for Clyde's Second Division campaign due to start on August 8th. Manager John Brown expressing his concern that with other clubs being in a position to offer higher wages that the best of their trialists could go to other clubs.

To date Clyde have played two pre-season fixtures, both behind close doors. They lost heavily to a Celtic XI in what was essentially nothing more than a bounce game before drawing 1-1 with Queen's Park at Lesser Hampden.
