The Manager Speaks
Sunday 19th April 2009
For once the sun shone on Cappielow and it shone on our first league victory at that venue since January 1997. Included in the Thistle side that afternoon over twelve years was Ian McCall who made one of his handful of Thistle appearances from the bench.
Ian was, of course, sitting on the Thistle bench again yesterday but in the capacity of Thistle manager. How things have changed in those 12 years. What hasn't changed is the delight that is to be found in a Thistle victory and Ian McCall was certainly a happy man when www.ptfc.co.uk spoke to him after yesterday's game.
"We knew what type of game we were going to get against Morton which is why, even though he has been outstanding all season, we left Simon Storey out and brought in Ian Maxwell. I thought that the whole back three were absolutely fantastic and it was really just half chances that Morton were limited to. John Robertson was again magnificent which he has been all season. He is a player that I'm very keen to have here next season and John knows that."
"On a day where there were some excellent performances I thought that David Rowson was phenomenal from start to finish. He displayed remarkable energy levels. Lucas Akins I felt was excellent for about 70 minutes. He is gutted about the chances that he missed but he has scored the goal that got us the three points. Simon Donnelly too played a big role when he came on and some of his touches were magnificent. On another day we could have won 3 or 4 nil."
"Quite often this season we have bounced back well from a disappointing result and that was certainly the case against Morton. I was very proud of all the players and our supporters who made the trip. There is plenty to feel positive about for next season."
"That said this season isn't over yet. St Johnstone face a very tough fixture against Queen of the South on Sunday and if they drop any points they are then going into an away fixture with Dundee which is a bit of a derby game."
