Victory in Close Door Friendly
Monday 6th April 2009
Earlier this evening a Thistle side played a Close Door friendly with Queen's Park at Lesser Hampden. An entertaining fixture ending in a 5-3 win for The Jags with no fewer than 4 of the goals arriving in the last ten minutes.
Craig Hinchcliffe and Ian Maxwell provided the experience in a Thistle side that included three Trialists. Those Trialists, all from various levels of non-league football, contributed all five of the Thistle goals, giving the watching Ian McCall plenty food for thought.
Thistle fell behind in the 14th minute but were level in the 39th minute when the Trialist number 11 gathered a loose ball inside the Queen's Park penalty box before lifting a shot into the roof of the net.
That was how the score stood at half-time but Queen's Park edged in front again in the 53rd minute.
The Thistle equaliser arrived 12 minutes later in fairly bizarre circumstances. A shot from the Trialist number 7 struck the Trialist number 10 and looped over the head of the Queen's Park keeper.
Thistle were in front for the first time in the 80th minute. The Trialists numbers 10 and 11 combined with the latter curling a great shot past the Queen's keeper and into the net.
Five minutes later it was 4-2. The time it was the Trialist number 7 that got among the goals, evading a couple of challenges in the box before confidently finding the corner of the net.
A minute later Queen's Park reduced the deficit to just one goal but the scoring wasn't over yet. With 2 minutes remaining the Trialist number 10 was able to take advantage of an error in the Queen's box to score his second of the night.
The Thistle team was as follows:
Hinchcliffe, Little, Sellars (McGeough), Maxwell, M Robertson, Campbell (Bannigan), Trialist, MacBeth, Eaglesham (Tully), Trialist, Trialist.
