Dundee Reaction
Saturday 20th December 2008
Thistle's away form hasn't been great so far this season and with that in mind many observers would have been happy to have emerged from Dens Park with a point had they been offered that before the game.
The primary emotion after today's 0-0 draw though was one of disappointment. Disappointment that an excellent Thistle performance, particularly after half-time, hadn't been rewarded with three points .
Although obviously pleased with the performance of his players there was disappointment etched all over manager Ian McCall's face when he spoke to www.ptfc.co.uk after the game.
"That was definitely two points dropped this afternoon as that was a game that we deserved to win. I'm gutted that we didn't win, especially with both Dunfermline and St Johnstone dropping points, and so are the players. I thought that we just about edged the first half but after the game we absolutely battered Dundee. I've taken plenty of teams to Dens Park and it is rare indeed for Dundee only to be a threat on the counter attack as they were this afternoon."
"We had a lot of excellent individual performances out there this afternoon and it is pleasing that we kept a clean sheet when you consider that two our more influential defenders were missing. We made Marc Twaddle captain for this afternoon's game and he reacted very well to that added responsibility."
"Our finishing was decent and Robert Douglas made two excellent saves that basically earned Dundee a point. He was the difference between us winning this afternoon and only coming away with a points."
"A top half finish this season would represent progress for us but as we near the end of 2008 we have a chance of doing even better than that if we can produce more performances like we did today."
Today's Other Results
Airdrie United 1, St Johnstone 1
Dunfermline Athletic 4, Clyde 4
Livingston 2, Queen of the South 0
Morton 2, Ross County 1
Today's results allowed St Johnstone, despite only drawing at bottom of the league Airdrie United, to maintain their five point lead albeit they have played a game more than both ourselves and Dunfermline.
With Livingston defeating Queen of the South the top four have opened up a bit of a gap over the rest of the division.
At the bottom end of the table Morton's 2-1 win over Ross County saw Dundee drop to a worrying second bottom spot.
Next up for Thistle is a visit of Ross County to Firhill on Saturday December 27th. What better way is there to round off the Christmas festivities than by watching an attractive, entertaining Partick Thistle team. Don't forget that Kids, as they do at all SFL home fixtures, go free next Saturday.
