Partick Thistle Football Club

 Rowson on his Goal

Saturday 28th February 2009

There was plenty of goal action at Livingston this afternoon. Of the six goals scored during the course of the 90 minutes four were netted by Thistle with the strikes from David Rowson and Gary Harkins of the highest standard.

You don't often see the name of David Rowson on the score sheet. Indeed his goal this afternoon was his first since his return to Firhill in the summer of 2007.

www.ptfc.co.uk isn't prone to telling tales but we feel we must relay the story surrounding Graeme Eaglesham, Ricky Little and George Furze from this afternoon. Our intrepid trio were busy in the dressing room as the second half kicked off and missed David's goal. Indeed they were of the firm belief that Gary Harkins' 90th minute free kick had secured a 3-2 win for Thistle.

Our story gets better when we reveal that when they were told that David Rowson had scored the refused to believe it believing instead that news of a Rowson goal was just a wind up!

Moving onto more serious matters David was naturally delighted when he spoke with www.ptfc.co.uk a short time after the final whistle.

"I've had a few of these this season when I've got it all wrong and the ball has spun well away from goal. On this occasion I managed to catch it well."

David certainly seemed to enjoy his goal.

"After about 18 months without a goal I was just delighted to see the ball hit the back of the net especially with it being a goal like that."

"I'd come close to scoring twice at Broadwood. Last season I hit the bar and this season the goalkeeper made a great save."

Does David remember his last goal?

"I do. It was a free kick against Notts County when I was playing with Darlington."

Without having had the opportunity to check we believe that David's last Thistle goal came against Dundee United in March of 2004. David recalls that strike as well.

"A chip and volley at the edge of the box? That just proves that I am capable of scoring some decent goals."

David wasn't the only Thistle player to score a spectacular goal this afternoon, Gary Harkins getting in on the act as well. So whose goal was the better?

"No contest. Gary has scored enough goals this season, it has to be mine."
