Partick Thistle Football Club

Queen of the South 2, Partick Thistle 2

Saturday 24th January 2009

In an entertaining fixture at Palmerston Park Thistle battled hard to come twice from behind to earn a point in a 2-2 draw.

So often in the past Stephen Dobbie had been a thorn in Thistle's flesh and he was so again when he fired Queens into an 11th minute lead.

As impressive as Queen of the South were in the opening quarter of the game Thistle were back on level terms in the 18th minute. Gary Harkins swung a free kick over from the left hand side and Kris Doolan was on hand inside the six yard box to head home his first ever Thistle first team goal (pictured here).

10 minutes into the second half the game took a turn in Queen of the South's favour once more. Paton Paul was adjudged to have fouled Robert Harris inside his own penalty box and Stevie Tosh calmly slotted home the penalty that followed.

This time it took Thistle 21 minutes to restore parity. The ball falling invitingly at the feet of substitute Scott Chaplain at the edge of the box and his low drive found the corner of the net.

Both teams had chances to win the game in a frantic closing 15 minutes but it was Queen of the South that came closest to snatching maximum points. Jonny Tuffey producing a quite magnificent save to keep out a Neil Scally header.
