On Friday 29th May at Thistle Hotel Willie Limond, the undefeated EU Lightweight Champion, Undefeated IBO Intercontinental Lightweight Champion and former Commonwealth Lightweight Champion, will challenge Ryan Barrett of London, who is the current English Champion for the vacant WBU World Lightweight Title.

Should Willie win the WBU World Lightweight he intends to make his first defence of the title in an open air show at Firhill Stadium.

Speaking at a Press Conference today at Firhill Willie said “I’m delighted the fight is finally here, it’s been a long time coming. I’m fighting the English Champ so it’ll be a cracking fight for the fans. It’ll be a dream if I win to defend the title at Firhill.” The attached picture shows both fighters with Thistle manager Ian McCall. Willie is wearing the home top, and Ryan the away one. Ryan gratefully accepted the shirt as a gift from Partick Thistle.

Partick Thistle Chairman Allan Cowan said “We are delighted Willie wants to, should he win, defend his title here at Firhill. Willie is a big Jags man and we are more than happy he has picked Firhill as a venue to stage his defence. Everybody at Partick Thistle Football Club is behind Willie to win next week”
