Pitch surface work in full swing.
Saturday 30th May 2009
If you thought that everything at Firhill ground to a halt at the end of the season, then the truth is very different. Almost as soon as the final whistle blew after the Glasgow Warriors last home game, Sportsmasters moved in to renovate the playing surface for the new season. First off was to remove the top surface layer of the pitch, and prepare it for sanding and seeding.

The picture on the right shows the tractors laying bands of sand, which help move lying water to the drainage lines more rapidly. Another tractor then levelled out the bands in preparation for seeding.
The 2nd picture was takenabout 4 days after the sanding and initial seeding, and as you can see, all the old grass has gone, with new seeds scattered, and a tractor spiking the pitch surface.

As of 2 days ago, the grass was already germinating, and the pitch was back showing signs of greenery. Intensive work is still continuing vigorously, and we will bring you more updates, including a series of pictures in the media gallery.
