Partick Thistle Football Club

 Under the Knife

Thursday 21st May 2009

As Thistle supporters will no doubt recall the team in the latter part of last season was badly hit by injury with a number of players playing while less than 100% fit.

Indeed both Willie Kinniburgh and Alan Archibald went under the surgeon's knife at the end of the season in an attempt to clear up persistent injuries.

Both players have now had their surgery and it is mixed news that we are have to bring you.

First the good news. Alan Archibald's operation was largely routine in nature and was a complete success and the Club Captain will join the rest of the squad for the first day of pre-season training in about a month's time.

The news on Willie Kinniburgh, however, isn't so good. Once under the knife it soon became clear to the surgeon that Willie's injury was much more serious than was at first thought. Indeed Willie looks set to miss the first couple of months of the 2009/2010 season. After a period of rehabilitation a return to full training isn't pencilled in until the middle of September at the earliest.

Said manager Ian McCall when speaking to www.ptfc.co.uk;

"It's a real blow for Willie to be out for so long. He showed great attitude last season in playing when well short of full fitness and although he will be out for awhile we look forward to him rejoining the squad when fully fit once more."
