Saturday 18th October 2008

H:/Fraser/projects/ptfc/website/public_html/img/news/dunfermlineathletic1partickthistle0.jpgThistle's long run without a victory in Dunfermline continued this afternoon. Searching for our first victory at East End Park since March 1983 Thistle went down to a 1-0 defeat. An Andy Kirk goal from a Nicky Phinn cut back in the 36th minute proving to be enough to earn the home side maximum points.

A fantastic save from Jonny Tuffey from Kevin Harper five minutes from half-time ensured that Thistle trailed by just one goal at the interval.

It was an improved performance from Thistle after the break. Simon Donnelly saw a shot blocked at the expense of a corner (pictured) following an assist from Marc Twaddle, and Kevin McKinlay, playing up front, was only denied a goal by a excellent finger tip save from Paul Gallacher in the 62nd minute.

Dunfermline though remained very much a threat themselves and Calum Wood saw a header crash back off the Thistle crossbar.

The other First Division scores today were:

  • Airdrie 2, Queen of the South 0
  • Dundee 1, Ross County 2
  • Livingston 0, St Johnstone 1
  • Morton 1, Clyde 0

Those results see Queen of the South remain top with 18 points but only lead Dunfermline and Livingston on goal difference.

Thistle drop a place to fifth while at the bottom Morton move to within 2 points of Clyde as they recorded their first league win of the season against the aforementioned Clyde.
