Thistle's hopes of reaching a final of a national cup competition for 37 years were ended by a 3rd minute Paul Di Giacomo goal.

Airdrie United were much the better side in the first half and Thistle were perhaps a little fortunate not to go in at half-time further behind.

It was an improvedsecond half display from Thistle. Kevin McKinlay smacked a shot off the underside of the bar and the introduction of Liam Buchanan added some extra life to the Thistle performance.

Craig Hinchcliffe saved a late Di Giacomo penalty (pictured) to maintain hope but a Scott Chaplain shot saved right on the line deep in injury time was Thistle 's last chance.
