St Johnstone 3, Partick Thistle 0
Saturday 25th October 2008

A miserable month of October for Thistle came to an all too welcome conclusion with a 3-0 defeat at a wet, windy and wild McDiarmid Park.
Thistle had the benefit of the elements in the first half but fell behind in the 14th minute. A Martin Hardie free kick broke into the path of Stuart McCaffrey and his shot found the corner of the net.
Liam Buchanan making his first start since returning from injury impressed and he came close to netting an equaliser in the 21st minute. His header from a Paul Paton corner was cleared off the line by Paul Sheerin.
The second half from a Thistle perspective is best forgotten. Two minutes into the second half St Johnstone had a penalty when Willie Kinniburgh handled a free kick. Jonny Tuffey though produced an excellent save to deny Paul Sheerin.
It was only a temporary reprieve though for Thistle. Ian Maxwell was adjudged to have fouled Derek Holmes in the 61st minute. This time Liam Craig took the kick and this time Jonny Tuffey was left with no chance.
Eight minutes later 2-0 became 3-0. Derek Holmes pushed the ball through to Steven Milne to score.
There were no more St Johnstone goals but there was further misery for Thistle in the 71st minute when Simon Storey saw red for a late lunge on Gary Irvine.
