Tuffey on International Call Up
Thursday 2nd October 2008
Now in his third season at Firhill after signing from Coventry City goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey, still just 21, continues to make significant progress. Previously capped at under 17, 19 and 21 levels for Northern Ireland the popular player was earlier in the week included in the full Northern Ireland squad for the second time. The player was naturally delighted to be one again included in Nigel Worthington’s squad. Said Jonny;
““It’s fantastic to be included in the squad. Playing for Northern Ireland is something that I have always dreamed about. As I’ve progressed through the various age groups at under 17, under 19 and under 21 I began to wonder if I might make the step up into the full squad. I’ve got to be careful that I don’t get too far ahead of myself because I haven’t played a game for the full squad yet but it is still great to be included.”
“With the quality of the players and staff that I will be working with I can’t fail to develop. Hopefully I can pick up a few pointers, improve my game and apply that when I get back here to Firhill.”
“I’m really looking forward to being part of the Northern Ireland squad, don’t get me wrong, but it will mean that I will miss the Alba Challenge Cup semi-final against Airdrie United. I know that I run the risk of not getting back into the team. If Hinchy (Craig Hinchcliffe) comes in and does well, which I’m sure he will, then I know that I will have a real fight to get back into the team upon my return.”
