Partick Thistle Football Club

400 GAMES FOR MANCHESTER UNITED AND 10 GAMES FOR ENGLAND

Wednesday 14th April 2010

The Club received the following article from Stephen Leach who was a guest of Thistle Director David Beattie on Saturday. It's always interesting to see how others see us.

Sounds impressive doesn't it, but that's approximately the football matches I've been to watch leading up to last Saturdays game,  Partick thistle v Dundee.

How did I come to watch the Thistle I hear you ask, well I'd like to say its a long story but it isn't.

A week earlier I visited the property of one of the Jags directors( I didn't know that at the time ) who had an insurance claim. As my job is property restoration I had been sent to look at the damage. Oh I forgot the company I work for had sent me to Glasgow to help the area out for 2 weeks. I live in Yorkshire.

So after a couple hours doing what I needed to do we discussed football. We talked about all issues from the great Scotland players of Law, Dalglish, Rough to the new stars Rooney, Messi etc.   As I was ready to leave he asked me about the Jags .My only knowledge was of 1971 v Celtic, the team's colours and Alan Rough. The gentlemen then asked would I like to go watch the Jags v Dundee as his guest .Yes I said. Bring a suit he said. A bit bemused he tells me I'm his guest, so the hospitality is on him for me and 3 guests.

Now he then tells me, as I thank him for the 5th time, that he wants the name of Partick Thistle to be spread long and wide(not in those words may I say) and how he hopes kids will start to follow Thistle unlike the other 2 teams in Glasgow.

So match day me my wife Yvonne ,my best mate Ian his partner Julie turn up to the Alan Rough Suite to watch the Jags v Dundee.

Now we have the best seats in the house so we were going to enjoy ourselves. But its like going out for a meal it's only as good as the food, service and the company you're in.

Well it was all 1st class from Robert Reid to the hard working staff to the souvenir shop to the Thistle fans themselves.

It was an amazing day. Nothing was too much for anybody and it made me fall in love with football again. I'd slowly fallen out of going to football games because of the soullessness of the big match occasion. Partick Thistle have made me fall in love again with our great game. Me and my best mate Ian bought home shirts ,our partners loved there first ever football match even though WE lost.

We are now fully fledged Jags. True we may only make a handful of games per season but Thistle are now in our hearts.

We are forming a Facebook page called Partick Thistle supporters England Branch so log on and say hello

So till we see you all again

All the best
