Ross County - After Match Reaction

Saturday 24th April 2010

Life for all associated with Partick Thistle in the last few weeks and months has been anything but easy. Today, however, was one of the good days. A game that belied its' status as a meaningless end of season fixture ending in a 2-1 victory for Thistle.

As you would expect there was an altogether more positive mood in the Thistle camp after this victory and that was reflected in manager Ian McCall's after match comments to www.ptfc.co.uk

"First of all I would like to pay tribute to the Thistle fans that made the trip to Dingwall today. They did so in decent numbers and gave the players some terrific backing throughout the 90 minutes. An away match with Ross County is a long trip for people to make for a game that ultimately didn't mean an awful lot and we all appreciate the efforts of Thistle fans today."

"I'm obviously delighted that we managed to get the win this afternoon especially when you consider the players that were missing today. We were without Alan Archibald our captain, Liam Buchanan our leading scorer and Jonny Tuffey who is an international goalkeeper. We were also without Paul Cairney and Paul Paton who have both been regulars in the side this season. It says a lot for the players that did play that we managed to come from 1-0 down to win 2-1. I thought the players approached the game really well right from the start and although the rest of the game was pretty even I felt that we totally dominated the first 25 minutes or so."

"It's strange that we have ended the season unbeaten in matches with Ross County. All four of our games with them have been really even yet in sharp contrast to games against teams that we have totally dominated we end up not losing a single match against them."

"This afternoon Ross County had us under pressure at time and Bryn Halliwell had the kind of game that does his chances of staying beyond the end of the season no harm at all. It was a long way from one way traffic though and we have again missed a lot of really good chances. Today it was three one on one chances that we didn't take. Simon Donnelly in addition to his goal missed a couple of good chances and David Rowson hit the post and young Kieran Burns had a couple of really good opportunities to score. Kieran I thought looked really sharp when he came on and he is the least of my worries in terms of missed chances. Hopefully things will even themselves out  next season in terms of taking chances."
