- Partick Thistle fan launches charity single -
Partick Thistle may not have topped the league this season but one fan has a dream that they can top the charts.
Lifelong Jags fan Brian Welsh – aka Big Welshy – is releasing a charity record to celebrate the end of the Firhill centenary season.
His song T.H.I.S.T.L.E. featuring local band Rio Callahan is being released for sale next week both in physical format (CD single) at Fopp, Byres Road, and in digital format on iTunes and other music sites.
All profits raised will be shared between two causes with 50% pledged to Partick Thistle community initiatives and the remainder donated to local cancer charities.
The release will be complemented by a coordinated PR campaign with some well-kent faces and friends of the club lined up to offer their support. An official music video for the track, drawing inspiration from a famous sporting movie, has also been recorded and is scheduled for release next week.
As Big Welshy said: “This is a fun project for some really worthy causes and I hope everyone enjoys the track. While in this city Thistle fans may be relatively small in number, when united they can be a powerful force and if each and every single fan can encourage all friends, family and colleagues to spend less than £1 to support T.H.I.S.T.L.E. we can all help put this magnificent club on the map again.”
Supporters can keep up to news about the track at the official T.H.I.S.T.L.E. Facebook page and at www.ptfc.co.uk
Thistle chairman Allan Cowan said: “Everyone at the club is delighted to support this music venture which is a fitting end to our Firhill centenary season.
“We hope to hear Thistle fans singing along tomorrow at our last home game of the season against Queen of the South.”
David Stewart, chair of the Partick Thistle Supporters' Association (the Jags Trust), said: "We are delighted to support Big Welshy's work to promote the football club and raise money for local community initiatives.
"The Trust assists with a large number of local charity groups, from running community football coaching courses to improve health and promote social integration, to partnering existing charities such as Phoenix Futures, which helps to integrate people with drug and alcohol addiction back into the workplace. The funds raised through the sale of this single will help to secure the future of projects such as these and many others.
“Thistle have always been a great community club, and we hope that folk will rally round and buy a copy of a song which is sure to quickly become a footballing classic."
