 Ayr Post Match Reaction

Saturday 8th August 2009

With the dust just about settled on an entertaining but ultimately a little disappointing 1-1 draw with Ayr United www.ptfc.co.uk caught up with manager Ian McCall for his thoughts on the 90 minutes.

"We all feel that that was two points dropped. Ayr have a few chances but I thought that we dominated the game for long spells and had about 80% of the play. Even in the last five minutes we've had two great chances to win the game but couldn't take them. Once again we're left thinking that it might have been different had Liam Buchanan been playing. Just a quick word about Liam, he has a slight thigh strain but we are hopeful that he will be fit for the Ross County. The physio has said that after being out for as long as he has been that with him training every day and playing the full 90 minutes in matches that he is likely to pick up the odd niggly injury."

"Returning to the game although we are disappointed that we dropped two points there were a large number of positive to take from the game. As I've said i thought we dominate Ayr for spells in the game and i thought that our passing and movement was excellent. Once again I thought Paul Paton was different class but he is crossing wasn't his usual high standard and that is something that he is disappointed about. Stephen McKeown too I thought was excellent but in the final third I thought we were a bit too powder puff at times. In the closing stages if anything I thought we wanted to win the game too much and left ourselves a little open at the back."

"We, of course, lost a bad goal at the start of the game. You work hard for six weeks and then make a mistake like that. To be fair though Mark Roberts is just about the only player who could take a chance like that. Jonny Tuffey is obviously gutted about losing that goal but I've said to him and the rest of the players that he will win us games this season."

"Finally, a quick word about the Thistle fans.  I thought that they were magnificent and gave us great support."
