Berwick Rangers Post Match Reaction
Saturday 1st August 2009
Opening the season at home with a 5-1 win albeit against Third Division opposition would on the face of it seem to be the perfect way to start the season but the emotions of manager Ian McCall after the game were, to say the least a little mixed.
There was no denying that he was contented with his side's performance but he was frustrated too at the condition of the Firhill playing surface.
"Although I thought that we played very well the state of the pitch was a problem. It's an issue that I have already taken up with my Chairman and it is something that we will be addressing with the SRU. The pitch today was simply far too long and meant that we couldn't do things as quickly as we wanted to."
"Looking at the game though I have to be happy with the performance and the result. We played in patches some excellent football. It was a bit too easy at times in the second half with the result that we were guilty of take too many touches on occasion. It was disappointing also to lose a goal but that was a cup tie and the important thing as always with cup ties is progressing to the next round."
"There were a number of impressive performances today. I thought Mark Corcoran did really well in the first half and we are obviously pleased to see Liam Buchanan score a couple of goals. Paul Paton too I felt was outstanding."
