Chris Erskine Young Player of the Round
Tuesday 25th August 2009
Congratulations are extended to Chris Erskine whose performance in scoring twice after coming off the bench in the last round against Berwick Rangers earned him Young Player of the Round award from the competition sponsors Co-Operative Insurance.

After collecting the award at Firhill last week Chris modestly described his goals as;
"All about being in the right place at the right time. The first was a tap-in after their goalkeeper had saved a shot and the second was about getting to a Paul Paton cross first and touching the ball in. They might not have been classics but it was a great feeling none the less."
He went on to comment on his step up from Junior football with Kilbirnie Ladeside to the senior game here at Firhill.
"It has been a massive step up from Kilbirnie to the second tier of Scottish football. I was not even in the top division of the Juniors and everything is sharper and quicker at this level but I believe I am doing okay. I love being a professional footballer, it is all I have ever wanted to be and getting recognition for my first ever performance in The Co-operative Insurance Cup in my first season is brilliant."

The Team of the Round award went to Albion Rovers who knocked out Livingston with the Player of the Round being collected by St Mirren's Billy Mehmet who netted no fewer than five times during the course of his sides 6-3 win against East Stirling.
