Forfar Post Match Reaction
Tuesday 18th August 2009
The best part of 4 years have passed since Thistle last scored six times in the same fixture. Back in October 2005 Thistle hit six past Alloa Athletic at Recreation Park. Thistle manager that afternoon was Dick Campbell. This evening he was in the opposition dug out as Thistle, not without the odd anxious moment in the first half, eased themselves through to the last eight of the ALBA Challenge Cup.
The current Thistle manager Ian McCall was understandably a contented man when he spoke with www.ptfc.co.uk a short time after full-time. He was, however, not without a few words of praise for the home side.
"I know a lot of people will fancy Livingston to win the Third Division but I reckon Forfar could do really well this season. They are a big strong team and will cause teams problems in the Third Division. Of all the players I have had in my managerial career there are few stronger in the air than Andy Tod."
Returning to the subject of Thistle's win the manager felt that his side had scored goals at key times in the game.
"I think it was important that we started the game well which we did and scored early. Although Forfar finished the half quite strongly I thought that in the first 25 minutes we played well and if truth be told we really should have been 2-0 or 3-0 ahead by that point."
"It was important too that we started the second half well and our two early goals helped pave the way to our victory. I was delighted to see Jim Hamilton score a couple of goals and I thought his second goal was a top quality goal."
"The longer the game went on the better we got and I was really pleased with the way we passed the ball about. We've been threatening to do that to a team for some time and we could even have scored a few more goals."
"Now that we have reached the last eight of the competition it starts to get a bit more interesting and I'm looking for a tie against anyone at Firhill in the quarter-final."
