Hearts XI 1, Partick Thistle XI 0
Tuesday 4th August 2009
On a hot and clammy afternoon in Edinburgh a Thistle XI lost 1-0 to a youthful Hearts side at the Hearts training ground.
The game's only goal arrived in the 16th minute. A shot from 30 yards out beat Craig Hinchcliffe but struck the bar. A Hearts forward though was the first to react to the loose ball and he tucked the ball home.
A strong and quick moving Hearts side dominated the first half but Thistle did have the ball in the net shortly before half-time but Kris Doolan's strike was ruled offside to the frustration of the Thistle player.
The second half was a more even affair but Thistle, or indeed Hearts, rarely looked like adding to the score. With time running out sub Scott Tully was able to latch onto a great through ball from Chris Erskine but he had strayed offside with the Hearts keeper saving his shot in any case.
The Thistle side was as follows:
Hinchcliffe, McGeough, Boyle, Rowson (Bannigan), Little, Lochhead, Corcoran (MacBeth), Campbell (Donnelly), Hamilton (Tully), Doolan, Erskine sub unused Scully.
