Morton Post Match Reaction
Sunday 30th August 2009
In sharp contrast to the prevailing sense of disappointment that surrounded the home dressing room on Tuesday night there were smiles all round at full-time yesterday. Thistle recording their first league win of the season in emphatic fashion. Recording in the process our biggest win against Morton since a 6-1 win at Cappielow almost exactly 85 years to the day.
Although clearly a happy man manager Ian McCall was keeping his feet firmly on the ground when he spoke to www.ptfc.co.uk after yesterday's game.
"I think we have actually played better at other times this season. I though we were better at Ayr United for example and after speaking to Gordon Chisholm after Tuesday's game we both agreed that both of our recent matches could have gone either way. Today was one of those good days but you know that in a long hard season in a league like this there are always potential hard times just round the corner."
"As everyone knows the First Division is an incredibly tight league. Just look at the league table. The top of the league has 8 points, that means they have dropped 4 points from 4 games, and we are just three points behind with 5 points."
"As much as we don't really want to emphasis it too much the win against Morton just showed how important Liam Buchanan is to us. He obviously had an excellent afternoon with two goals and a hand in each of the three other goals. He wasn't, however, my man of the match. For me that was David Rowson a player who often comes in for some criticism. I thought he was absolutely immense and provided us with a really solid base in the middle of the park."
On a final note for those wondering when we last scored five at home in the league was in February 2004 when we defeated Livingston 5-2 in a SPL fixture.
