Partick Thistle 6, Forfar Athletic 1

Tuesday 18th August 2009

Ultimately Thistle had an easy enough passage through to the next round of the ALBA Challenge Cup but were made to fight for spells during a tricky first 45 minutes.

Thistle settled first and were in front after 8 minutes when Kris Doolan touched home a Paul Cairney assist.

Forfar fought hard in the first half and were unfortunate not to be level in the 41st minute. A Kevin Fotheringham shot striking the underside of the bar before bouncing along the goal line.

Two goals  early in the second half, both scored by Jim Hamilton proved to be decisive.

Forfar did reduce the deficit to two through Chris Templeman in the 59th minute but an immediate response from David Rowson and further counters from Simon Donnelly and Paul Cairney  emphasised Thistle's superiority as the game continued.
