Partick Thistle Football Club

Queen of the South - Post Match Reaction

Saturday 22nd August 2009

A defeat at any time is hard to take, doubly so when, as it did today, the winning goal comes near the end of the game.

Just seven minutes of a tight game remained when Queen of the South substitute David Weatherston latched onto a through ball from Derek Holmes before slotting past Jonny Tuffey.

Thistle manager Ian McCall was naturally a very disappointed man when www.ptfc.co.uk caught up with him for some brief comment a short time after full time.

"I thought that bar the last 5 minutes we dominated the first half and the game wads pretty much played in font of us  and we were really disappointed to go in at half-time with the score still tied at 0-0. We had one great chance when Mark Corcoran was denied a goal by Ludovic Roy.  We've scored 11 goals in two cup ties yet only one goal in the league and we have to hope that this isn't becoming a problem. You will always miss chances but it is some really great chances that we have been missing. It's all very well playing good passing football but if my players want to be at the top of the league competing then we need to start scoring goals."

"The second half was much more open and it really could have gone either way with both teams having chances to win the game. I can't fault the players for their efforts and endeavour but we are really disappointed at losing a poor goal and disappointed that we didn't give the Thistle fans who gave us such great support a better result."
