Youth Round-up
Monday 24th August 2009
The Under-19s travelled to Dingwall for their second league game of the season following a heavy 5-1 defeat to Cowdenbeath the previous week, and were very unlucky to walk away from this game with a 3-2 defeat.
After only 11 minutes, the Jags took the lead when Ryan MacBeth powered home from 15 yards. The lead was sustained until 9 minutes later when a dipping shot from 18 yards went over goalkeeper Graeme Shepherd.
1-1 half-time
Ian Cameron introduced his only two substitutes when Ryan Scully replaced Graeme Shepherd and 16 year old Shaun Fraser replaced Scott Tully.
Thistle took the lead in the 60th minute when a great head on from Shaun Fraser allowed Stuart Bannigan to volley home from 12 yards. Though, again, the lead was only held onto for 10 minutes as the young side from Dingwall drew level. Five minutes later Ross County scored what was to be the winner, from a tap-in. The home team could have added to their lead when a penalty was awarded, but Scully did brilliantly to touch it onto the bar with a great one handed save.
3-2 final
Shepherd (Scully), Baxter, Pearce, Lochhead, McDermott, Campbell, Hodge, Bannigan, Sweeney, MacBeth, Tully(Fraser)
Meanwhile, in the first-game for both the Under-16s and 14s, it was to be defeat for both as Queens Park beat the 16s 2-0 at Lesser Hampden and the 14s went down 3-1 at Petershill Park.
Next Sunday (30th), the 19s host Elgin City at Beith Juniors with a 2.00pm kick-off, the 16s host Clyde and the 14s travel to Cumbernauld - details still to be confirmed.
