 Thistle Sign Jackie McNamara

Friday 19th February 2010

Thistle have over the last few weeks been linked heavily with Falkirk's Jackie McNamara.

The manager had been keen to add McNamara to his squad before the January transfer window closed but, despite the player being keen to join, that transfer didn't happen. It had looked at that point that any deal to bring McNamara to Firhill would need to wait until the start of next season.

We are delighted, therefore, to be able to confirm that the paperwork has just been completed on a deal that will see Jackie wear Thistle's colours this season. The 36 year old has joined Thistle on loan initially until March 21st 2010 though the loan can be extended beyond that date.

Jackie, who has been capped 33 times for Scotland, started his career with Dunfermline before joining Celtic for a reported £650,000. After a highly successful spell with Celtic which included a testimonial against the Republic Of Ireland, Jackie moved south to join Wolverhampton Wanderers before returning to Scotland to play with firstly Aberdeen and then most recently Falkirk.

That we have been able to complete this signing has been due in no small measure to the efforts of the Jags Trust who have made a fantastic contribution to the funding of this deal. Without their financial assistance we would have been unable to bring Jackie to Firhill at this point and our grateful thanks are extended to the Jags Trust.

 More reaction to follow.
