Partick Thistle v Morton - After MAtch Reaction
Monday 4th January 2010
The glow of satisfaction that comes with a hard fought win helped banish the cold on an evening where the winter chill really started to bite.
With Dundee losing to Airdrie United the previous day the importance of Thistle gathering full points this evening against Morton was clear to see and that win was secured courtesy of a 74th minute strike from Paul Cairney.
Although naturally pleased to have seen his players secure the three points manager Ian McCall was quick to acknowledge the fact that there had been little between the teams when www.ptfc.co.uk caught up with the Thistle manager after the game.
"If I am being honest I think that a draw would have been the fairer result. They had chances and we had chances but luck has been against us a times this season so on a night where it was all about getting the three points we were thrilled to get the win and turn what could have been just one point into all three points."
"We tried a different formation for this game. Although Liam Buchanan is a little short in terms of match fitness we decided to see how things would go with our three main goal threats, Liam, Simon Donnelly and Steve Lovell, on from the start. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't."
"We had some really good individual performances tonight. Paul Cairney I am sure is going to be a top player and I thought that Mark Corcoran, who was really unlucky not to start this game, did really well when he came on for Jamie Adams at half-time."
"Although it was in the main a tactical decision to take Jamie Adams off at half-time Jamie has been struggling this week with a really bad chest infection and has really only done one day's worth of training in the lead up to this game."
"To round off what was a good day for Thistle it was great to see Gerry Britton get the reception he did from the Thistle fans at full-time. Although given the type of person that Gerry is he was interested in just one thing tonight - three points for Partick Thistle. Although he will now be leaving his position as Assistant Manager Partick Thistle has most surely not heard the last of Gerry Britton."
