 Reserves defeat Ayr United

Tuesday 26th January 2010

The Reserves ran out 3-1 winners at Dam Park v Ayr United, in last nights Reserve League Cup tie.

The Jags started bright with a team that only contained one under-19 player, Ryan MacBeth.  Liam Buchanan had his 25 yard strike turned round the post, with 18 minutes gone.  Five minutes later Ayr came close as a bad pass by Bryan Hodge allowed the Somerset men to shoot by Tuffey's post.

Ayr, unfortunately, were the first off the blocks in the 33rd minute, when a cross was turned in at the far post.  Thistle were unlucky not to equalise a minute later when Ryan MacBeth's 25 yard shot went just over.  Two minutes before the break, Chris Erskine hit the bar with a 16 yard effort and with Liam Buchanan following up, he fired the rebound just by the post.  With only a minute left of the first half, Chris Erskine fired a shot across the 6 yard box with no takers.  Ryan MacBeth then fired another 25 yard shot just over.

Half-time 1-0

With minutes into the second half, the Jags equalised.  Liam Buchanan cut the ball back from the byeline and was driven home by Chris Erskine from 16 yards, into the top corner.  Five minutes later, Thistle took the lead, with Liam Buchanan stroking the ball into the net after a good pass from Stevie Lovell.  With one minute remaining until full time, the lead was extended when Ryan Conroy fired into the top corner from 15 yards.

Full-time 1-3

Team:  Tuffey, Paton, Conroy, Corrigan, Boyle, Hodge, Doolan, MacBeth (Campbell), Buchanan (McGeough), Lovell (Burns), Erskine.  Subs unused:  Shepherd GK, Stevenson
