Dumbarton - Post Match Reaction
Tuesday 14th July 2009
After tonight's 2-0 win against Dumbarton www.ptfc.co.uk was able to catch up with a happy and contented Thistle manager Ian McCall.
"I thought that we were terrific tonight and at times the football that we played was excellent. Some of our passing was excellent although we might not always get the opportunity to play on a pitch as good as Dumbarton's which allows you to pass the ball well."
"In general I thought that we were a lot more compact than we were against Stirling Albion and I was delighted that we looked like a real threat when we were going forward and I thought that the way that Dumbarton played which forced us to chase the ball actually helped us."
"On top of a good team performance I thought that we also had a number of very good individual performances. One thing that I feel that we need to brush up is our finishing. Liam Buchanan, Kris Doolan and Paul Cairney all missed chances that would have seen us win the game more comfortably than we did but our finishing will improve with time."
"One of the major pluses for me so far pre-season has been to see Liam Buchanan back fit. It had been my intention to play him for just 60 minutes tonight but he wanted to play the full 90 minutes. Liam is excellent playing through the middle but he is also excellent playing on the right of a front three."
One moment for concern this evening came midway through the second half when Jim Hamilton sustained what appeared to be a nasty cut to his head. We are delighted to report that after being swiftly treated by Club Physio Andy Myles that Jim is in fine shape.
