Jonny Tuffey on Facing the World Champions
Sunday 7th June 2009
Representing your country is often the pinnacle of any player's career. Last night Jonny Tuffey won his second full international cap for Northern Ireland and made his first start as he lined up against current world champions Italy in Pisa. Although an inexperienced Irish side lost 3-0 it was clearly a memorable experience for the Thistle keeper who played just over an hour of the match. Although 2-0 when substituted Jonny produced a number of excellent saves including a trademark penalty save.
After the game Jonny shared a few thoughts on the occasion with www.ptfc.co.uk.
"I have to say that that was the best night of my career. Not just starting a senior international but against the world champions as well was just a fantastic experience."
"It's obviously never nice to lose goals no matter the opposition but both were decent finishes. I was disappointed to give away the penalty kick but I made up for that by saving it. It was nice also to make a few more saves."
