Pitch surface - an update.
Friday 12th June 2009
In a follow up to the last report on the work going on with the pitch surface, the latest news is that the actual seeding has been done, but the painstaking wait for the roots to germinate and strengthen is now the order of the day. If you'd seen the recent TV interviews with the manager at pitchside, you'd have thought the pitch was looking lush and thick. However, the pictures attached here show that the growth is still at a fairly embryonic stage.
The last report showed a bare and brown surface. Here you can see the pitch showing plenty of grass shoots, albeit with what looks to be plenty of gaps. This is just a matter of the blades of grass filling out, and the current good weather is helping no end.
This picture taken from above, demonstrates the amount of growth still to come. The company dealing with the surfacing, Sportsmasters, say that the roots are still very brittle at this stage, and recommend that nobody even step on the pitch for at least another 4 weeks, so here's hoping the weather remains favourable for the grass to fill out and strengthen as quickly as possible. To see a few more detailed pictures, check out the new ones added to the existing page in the media section, or by clicking the link below. We will bring you another update soon.
