45 mins+: Thistle's season summed up in one move. An excellent move sees Liam Buchanan set up Paul Cairney who hits the side netting when a goal looked likely.

43 mins: A Rowson half volley nearly sneaks in but Samson is down quickly at his post.

42 mins: Liam Buchanan lays the ball ino the path of Chris Errskine who mis kicks.

34 mins: GOAL AYR. Thistle, well on top, are caught by a bold out the blue. The ball falls to Steve Bowey and his shot flies past Tuffey and into the net via the underside of the Thistle bar.

30 mins: Paul Paton plays a great ball through to Erskine who ends up in a heep on the edge of the box looking for a free kick that doesn't come.

28 mins: Nearly a Thistle goal. Buchanan's shot from an angle being touched ove the bar by Samson who then grabs Conroy's corner.

27 mins: Samson pushes David Rowson's well placed shot round the post for a corner which is quickly cleared.

26 mins: Liam Buchanan isn't too far away from making contact with a Chris Erskine cross. Better spell from Thistle.

21 mins: Thistle's best move of the game thus far earns Thistle a corner. Conroy to take it. Samson punches clear before Cairney knocks a half hit shot wide of goal.

15 mins: McManus again a threat as he gets in behind the Thistle defence but Tuffey saves.

13 mins: Tuffey does well to keep out a McManus effort and then has to punch clear under pressure from the corner that follows.

12 mins: Chris Erskine looks to be fouled on the edge of the Ayr box but there is no free kick. The ball breaks to David Rowson but hsi effort is well off target.

9 mins: Ryan McGowan sees his shot from 18 yards just clear Jonny Tuffey's crossbar as Ayr are the better side in the game's opening 10 minutes.

6 mins: A Paul Cairney shot takes a deflection and Thistle have their first corner. John Robertson gets his head to the ball but is adjudged to have fouled an Ayr defender.

PRE-MATCH NEWS: Ian McCall has made three changes to the side to face Ayr United. There are starts for Paul Paton, Simon Donnelly and Chris Erskine as the injured Martyn Corrigan, Stephen McKeown and Steve Lovell drop out of the side. It looks, therefore, that Thistle will be returning to a 4-4-2 formation for this fixture.

It's a crisp, cold night but without so much as a breath of wind and on a pitch with plenty of give in it conditions are near as perfect.
