Partick Thistle Football Club

 Inverness After Match Reaction

Saturday 27th March 2010

With Inverness climbing to the summit of the First Division with the season entering its' final stages it was a good afternoon for the visitors at Firhill. It was, however, an afternoon of disappointment for Thistle though and few would grudge Inverness their win. Not least Thistle manager Ian McCall who was fairly succinct with his initial assessment when he spoke to www.ptfc.co.uk after the game.

"We were beaten by the better team."

"When we lost three games on the trot by one goal to nil we all felt that we should have taken more from those games but that wasn't really the case this afternoon. First half in particular Inverness were much the better side. Jonny Tuffey has kept us in the game during the first half and we could easily have gone in a the break 4-0 down had it not been for Jonny. We wish Inverness well for the remainder of the season. They are good side with three or four players of real Premier League class and during that first half they were simply too strong for us at times."

"I was pleased with the way the players reacted after the break and we gave a spirited performance but ultimately it was a case of too little too late. We've had a few chances here and there and Liam has missed a really good chance early in the half to get us back in it a 1-1."

"I didn't see it myself but the players are adamant that we should have had a penalty near the end. They say it was a blatant handball with the Inverness defender using both hands. It simply wasn't to be for us though."

"The worry that we have now is that we are down to the bare bones with just about 14 fit players. We knew that Alan Archibald had problems with his knee and it was those problems that prompted us to substitute him and half Bryan Hodge playing the last quarter of the game at left back. Alan needs his knee tidied up and it could well be that his season is now over."
