Partick Thistle Football Club

Queen of the South After Match Reaction

Saturday 6th March 2010

It was an all too familiar story at Palmerston Park this afternoon. Plenty of good football from Thistle, particularly after half time. A hatful of chances but ultimately no reward.  The result? A bitterly disappointing 1-0 defeat.

There is a familiar look to the manager's after match comments as he himself admitted when www.ptfc.co.uk spoke to him in the Palmerston Park car park.

"You could just take my comments from the about ten games and just use them" said a clearly frustrated manager.

"I'm almost at the point where I don't know what to say. It's just a case of the same old story. I'm fed up saying it and I know the Thistle fans will be fed up hearing me say it but we didn't deserve to lose that game. We've completely dominated the second half but couldn't put the ball in the net."

"The first half was a much more even affair which Queen of the South dominated territorially but for all that they didn't create much. We defended really well with Jonny Tuffey not having a single save of any note to make. While we were defending well we could also have hit them on the counter attack and have four or five chances to do that. We just needed to show a bit of composure when we had the chance to do so."

"Second half Queen of the South had just the one chance. It was, admittedly, an excellent goal but we went to sleep at a corner kick."

"After the loss of that goal Jonny Tuffey didn't have another save to make while we missed a series of excellent chances. Chris Erskine has had a good chance saved, Liam Buchanan has had a good chance as well, Stephen McKeown has missed one from 5 yards and Bryan Hodge has missed a great chance from 12 yards out when you simply have to put the ball in the net. Then, deep in injury time Martyn Corrigan has hit the crossbar. I've said to Martyn that although he has had an ooh when he hit the bar it is a chance that he should have taken."

"Although defeated I was still proud of my players. Greg Shields picked up a hamstring injury in training on Friday and that meant Jackie McNamara had to drop back into the defence. I felt that Jackie was head and shoulders above all the other players. I know he is really enjoying things at Firhill and I want to keep him beyond his initial month at the Club and next season. We will just have to wait and see what happens but he will feature against Ayr United and Morton in our next two games.

"It's just so disappointing but we need to try and get on with things starting with Wednesday's fixture at Ayr United."
