Queen of the South - After Match Reaction
Saturday 1st May 2010
A fantastic injury time strike from Kris Doolan saw Thistle end the season with a victory for the first time since season 2005-2006.
www.ptfc.co.uk took the opportunity to catch up with a few people after the game starting with the scorer of that fantastic winning goal, Kris Doolan.
Kris, clearly happy to have scored such an excellent goal, wasn't so happy at the tongue in cheek suggestion that had been an attempted cross.
"Aye, that will be right", grinned the Thistle goal scorer.
"That was one of those goals that I knew was in as soon as I hit it. It was David Rowson that laid the ball off to me and I was delighted to see it hit the net and delighted that we got the three points. It makes a good day for us and with the Player of the Year Dance to look forward to later tonight it helps make it a good night for the supporters as well."
"It's frustrating for me in a way that after having scored today that the season is now over. I will just need to save my goals for next season."
It was a special day for Kris Doolan but it was also a special day for goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey who has in all probability played his final game for Partick Thistle this afternoon. Just how important the day was to Jonny could be seen from his 70 yard sprint to join the celebrations (pictured below) at the winning goal

"That was the perfect day. It was great to keep a clean sheet and make a couple of saves and great to get the three points."
"It was a great send off from the Thistle fans at the end of the game and I can't thank them enough for that. I've had four great years with Partick Thistle."
"It's been a rough couple of months and we have struggled to score goals at times so it was nice to end the season by winning the game with a wonder goal from Kris Doolan. We've been disappointed not to have done better in the second half of the season and while we are delighted to have ended the season with two wins we are frustrated also not to haven finished the season higher up the league."
That was a view echoed by Thistle manager Ian McCall.
"After a season where we have missed a lot of chances it's strange that we end up scoring a wonderful goal in injury time of the last game of the season. We've ended the season with two wins but as pleased as we are to have done that it also leaves us frustrated at missed opportunities at other times in the season."
"As an end of season fixture I thought that today's game was actually a pretty entertaining game. It was a game of contrasting styles. Kenny Brannigan has obviously decided to go with a direct approach relying on big, strong players whereas we prefer to try and pass the ball where possible."
"It was a match that I felt that we were the better team in and we deserved to win but it was the kind of match that could also have finished 3-3 or 4-4."
"It was great again to finish the match with three players from the under 19 side on the pitch and I do believe that we have the basis of a decent team here for next season and provided I can add a couple of players that I think we should do okay."
"It will, however, be a challenging season for us and I think that is something that the fans should be aware of. It will be the kind of season where we will need everyone to stick together and I would urge the Thistle fans, where possible, to buy season tickets and to buy them as earlier as possible."
