Partick Thistle Football Club

 Morton After Match Reaction

Saturday 7th November 2009

After  the disappointment of defeat one week the best way to bounce back is with victory in the very next fixture. Which is precisely what Thistle did this afternoon against Morton.

It wasn't, perhaps, the best performance that Thistle have produced this season but it was still a satisfied Ian McCall that www.ptfc.co.uk spoke to after the game.

"The one thing that I was really pleased about was the fact that the players have taken on board some of the things that I have been telling them. So far this season all the games that we have won have been games that we have deserved to win while there have been a few games, like the opening game of the season against Ayr United, where we should have won but didn't. We get reports on other teams and some teams have won games when they haven't deserved to. Now, I'm not saying that today we didn't deserve our victory, I felt that we did, but it was a day about grinding out a result. That's what I've been trying to impress upon the players recently. We've played some sparkling football at times this season but it's not always about that. Sometimes It's about battling to get the points and that is what we did today."

"I thought that we played poorly in the first half but in saying that I though that the best two chances came our way. I thought that both Liam Buchanan and Simon Donnelly should have taken the chances that they had in the first half. They did, however, do just that in the second half and they were good finishes."

"I felt that Jamie Adams, with  his height and power, made a big difference when he came on at the start of the second half. Indeed when you look at who we had on the bench today you can see that we have measurably have improved our squad. I've never before had the option of bringing on players like Steve Lovell, Jamie Adams and Mark Corcoran which I did today and I also had the defensive option of Martyn Corrigan. And not just the bench that shows we have a good squad. Sitting  in the stand today we had the likes of Jim Hamilton and Kris Doolan who was really unlucky not to even get stripped today. While some of these players may have to go out on loan this is by far the strongest squad I have had as Thistle manager."
