Thistle Add to Squad
Monday 2nd November 2009
In the match preview for Saturday's game with Raith Rovers here on www.ptfc.co.uk manager Ian McCall brought us the news that, following the signing on Friday of Steve Lovell, he was hopeful of completing a second piece of transfer business at the start of this week.
True to his word we are delighted to be able to confirm that earlier today the manager was able to add to his squad once more with the signing, on loan, of Kilmarnock midfielder Jamie Adams.
Part of the Kilmarnock set up since 2004 Jamie's experience of first team football has, thus far, been limited to no fewer than three separate loan spells with Queen of the South. Ian McCall taking Jamie to Palmerston Park for the first time in January 2007 while he was manager at Queen of the South and Jamie is clearly a player that the Thistle manager rates extremely highly.
In addition to his time with Queen of the South the 6' 1" midfielder has been capped by Scotland at under 19 and under 20 level and was part of the Scotland side that competed in the FIFA Under 20 World Cup Finals in Canada during the summer of 2007.
Jamie's career, however, has been on hold over the last couple of seasons after a prolonged period on the sidelines following a cruciate injury. It is hoped, therefore, that his temporary transfer to Firhill will benefit both the player as well as Partick Thistle.
Jamie will remain on loan here at Firhill until January 16th 2010.
Said manager Ian McCall;
"I'm really excited that we have managed to add Jamie Adams to the squad. Jamie will initially be joining us on loan until the middle of January but at that point we will sit down with Kilmarnock as Jamie is a player that I'm keen to add to the squad on a permanent basis."
"Jamie can play anywhere across the midfield and also at centre back but it is midfield that is his best position. At well over 6 feet tall he has a real presence about him and has an eye for a goal. He is exactly the kind of player that we could have done with on Saturday against Raith Rovers. When we were sitting a little too deep he would have been the ideal player to get from box to box. I took Jamie to Queen of the South a few years ago when I was manager there and he was exceptional. He's has problems with knee injuries across the last couple of seasons but this is the ideal opportunity for him to get fit and get games. As I have already said I'm keen to see Jamie stay at Firhill beyond the end of his initial loan deal."
"Although it may be that a couple of players will move out on loan over the next few weeks I think that the recent additions of Jamie and Stevie Lovell increases not just the depth of the squad that I have but the quality of the squad as well."
