Ayr United After Match Reaction
Saturday 17th October 2009
After last week's undeserved reverse against Dundee it was important that Thistle got back to winning ways this afternoon against Ayr United. Thanks to first half goals from Mark Corcoran and Liam Buchanan, his ninth of the season, Thistle did just that.
www.ptfc.co.uk caught up with manager Ian McCall a short time after the final whistle and he had the looked of a contented man about him. He did first though find time for some words of praise for the visitors to Firhill this afternoon.
"I think that you have to credit Ayr United for a spirited performance. They are not a side that I expect to see fighting against relegation this season. In saying that I thought that some of the football that we played, first half especially, was sparkling. If I have one complaint it is that in the side half we could have shown a bit more care and we could have put the game to bed. I didn't think though that we ever really looked like losing a goal. Not for the first time this season Jonny Tuffey has hardly had a save to make. That should stand him in good stead should he play for one of the top teams later in his career where his concentration will have to be excellent."
"On another day we could have won 3 or 4 nil and I thought that we could have had a couple of penalties. Even the Ayr bench agreed that it was a penalty in the first half when Liam Buchanan looked to be fouled. If you don't get it you don't get it and you just have to get on with things. What disappointed me was that Liam was booked and that's Liam just one booking away from a suspension now."
"We shouldn't dwell on things like that for too long. In this division you are always delighted to record a victory and today was no exception. We had a number of excellent performances and once again I thought that Simon Donnelly's performance was sublime. I also felt that we received great support from the Thistle fans and would like to extend my thanks to them for that. It was also nice to see Mark Roberts get a nice reaction from the Thistle fans. I'm just glad that he didn't score."
