Ian McCall on today's win against Airdrie United
Saturday 3rd October 2009
It may only be the first week in October but there is always a certain satisfaction to be had from sitting top of the league. With Queen of the South losing at home to Morton this afternoon our ultimately fairly comfortable 2-0 win against Airdrie United allowed us to climb to the top of the league.
It was a naturally fairly content Ian McCall then that spoke to www.ptfc.co.uk at the game's conclusion although he wasn't fooled into believing that this had been a vintage Thistle performance.
"I didn't think that we played at all well but given the circumstances surrounding the game that is hardly a surprise. The affects of the virus that hit us so hard last Saturday are still being felt around the Club at the moment. During the week for example about half a team simply didn't train."
"I'm really pleased that under these circumstances we managed to record a victory. To be honest I thought that Airdrie United were the better side in the first half. In the second though I thought that we could have scored a lot more goals. I'm not complaining though, getting the victory was the most important thing."
"I wasn't best placed to make any comment on the sending of. I would like to think that we would have gone on to win the game in any case but it is bound to have had an impact on the match."
"At the moment we are defending really well and I thought the two centre backs were excellent today. I must pay special tribute to Willie Kinniburgh. Willie was another player that was complaining of not feeling well but he came in today and produced an excellent performance."
