New Signing
Friday 30th October 2009
In the Match Preview for tomorrow's game manager Ian McCall made mention of the fact that was hopeful of tying up two players on short term contracts here at Firhill and that one deal may even be concluded before tomorrow's game.
We are delighted to report, therefore, that the paperwork was completed a short time ago on a deal that will bring striker Steve Lovell, to Firhill until January 2nd 2010.
Said manager Ian McCall;
"We are delighted and excited to have brought Steve to Firhill. He as bags of SPL experience with Dundee, Aberdeen and Falkirk and has plenty of pace about him. The deal we have agreed with him will see him stay at Firhill until early January and we will look at the situation again then. He has option to go back to England and we are fine about that. What we hope though is that he scores some goals, likes it here and wants to stay."
"Steve has signed his contract here and we are at present just awaiting on clearance coming through from the English FA. A failure to get that clearance is the only thing that would prevent him from going into the squad for tomorrow's game."
"I would like to thank the Board of Directors for helping complete this transfer. Although the deal is for just a few months I did stress to the Directors that now was the time to try and push on and Steve's arrival helps give us a bit more depth to our squad. We should also be in the position to complete a loan signing early next week as well."
Twenty eight year old Steve Lovell started his career with Bournemouth making his first team debut against Macclesfield in April 1999.
After just a handful of appearances Bournemouth Portsmouth paid a reported £250,000 to take him to Fratton Park in August 1999 and he would remain with Portsmouth, aside from loan spells with Exeter City, Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers, until 2002 when he moved to Scotland for the first time when he signed for Dundee.
After 98 appearances and 35 goals for Dundee, Steve joined Aberdeen in the summer of 2007 for another fee reported to be in the region £250,000. While at Pittodrie Steve scored 24 goals before spending last season with Falkirk scoring ten goals.
Since leaving Falkirk Steve had, until recently been training with his first club Bournemouth but a transfer embargo placed on Bournemouth prevented any deal being completed.
