Partick Thistle Football Club

 Dunfermline After Match Reaction

Saturday 19th September 2009

There are just some days when everything falls into place and this afternoon was one such day. With Firhill's 100th birthday celebrations in full swing the players on the park did their bit to ensure that it was a memorable afternoon producing a polished performance and a comfortable 2-0 win.

After the game manager Ian McCall caught up with www.ptfc.co.uk and as you can imagine he was in a happy and contented mood at the end of the game.

"I thought today that some of our football was terrific. Our only worry at one point was that we didn't get a goal early enough but Paul Cairney put us in front with a good finish. Although it was a an error that gave Paul the chance he still had a bit to do before scoring which he did with some aplomb."

"The second goal was an important one for us and I was delighted that it was scored by Simon Donnelly. To be perfectly honest with you I don't think that Dunfermline were able to cope at all with Simon's movement off the ball and playing as the second striker I thought he was absolutely terrific. We brought Simon off with ten minutes to go and it was nice to hear the Thistle fans give Simon such a rousing reception. It hasn't always been that way for Simon at Partick Thistle but the fans are really appreciating his talents at the moment. Hopefully Simon will be at Firhill for a few more years if not as a player then in the coaching capacity that he presently holds."

Simon Donnelly wasn't the only player that the manager took time to praise at the end of the game.

"I was really pleased with the performance of Bryan Hodge. I don't think anyone has ever doubted the ability that Bryan has but making the step up from reserve team football, albeit at English Premiership level, is very difficult and it has naturally taken Bryan a bit of time to make that step. I spoke to him during the week and said to him that now was the time that he to start proving to me that he is the kind of player that I should be building a team around and today against Dunfermline I thought that he did just that."
