Partick Thistle Football Club

Partcik Thistle Reserves 2, Stenhousemuir Reserves 2

Tuesday 15th September 2009

Thistle had to settle for a draw in a game that they looked to be well in control of at half-time.

Although Craig Hinchcliffe had to produce an excellent save (pictured)in the opening quarter of the game to keep the score tied at 0-0 Thistle had by far and way the better of the first half.

A string of chances were created and missed before Thistle finally took a 42nd minute lead. The goal though deserved arrived in a strange fashion. Willie Kinniburgh and the Stenhousemuir goalkeeper both went for the same long throw but it was Kinniburgh that got the touch and the ball dropped into the far corner of the net.

Three minutes later Thistle doubled their lead and did so with a well crafted goal. Martyn Corrigan's back post cross was headed back across goal and Ryan MacBeth slid in to make it 2-0.

Thistle replaced Jim Hamilton with Stuart Bannigan at the interval and unlike the first 45 minutes it was Stenhousemuir that had the better of things after the break.

Thistle though still looked like easing to victory but the visitors were back in the match in the 71st minute. Craig Hinchcliffe was penalised for handling a pass back although the Thistle keeper fiercely contested that decision. He was cursing even more when after the free kick was touched to the right the ball was lifted into the roof of the Thistle net.

With 8 minutes remaining the scores were tied. A corner from the Stenhousemuir left was missed by Hinchcliffe and the ball was headed home at the far post.

There was to be the winning goal for either side with Thistle completing the game with ten men after Ryan MacBeth came off injured after all three substitutes had been committed.

Team: Hinchcliffe, Corrigan, Boyle, Little, Kinniburgh, Trialist, MacBeth, Hodge (Lochhead), Hamilton (Bannigan), Doolan (Sweeney), Tully Unused subs Scully, and  McDermott.
