Queen's Park Reserves 0, Partick Thistle Reserves 0
Monday 21st September 2009
The Thistle reserve team drew 0-0 this evening in a less than enthralling fixture with Queen's Park at Lesser Hampden.
With the likes of Liam Buchanan and Jim Hamilton not risked on the Lesser Hampden artificial surface it was an inexperienced Thistle team that lined-up for this fixture. The experience being provided by Craig Hinchcliffe, fresh from leading his team to victory in the Alan Archibald Testimonial golf day, Patrick Boyle , Willie Kinniburgh and Mark Corcoran. The remainder of the team comprised of members of the Thistle under 19 team with many of them playing in the under 19s 1-0 win over Stenhousemuir just 24 hours earlier.
The wet surface didn't help the spectacle any but chances were few and far between during this 90 minutes. Thistle's first chance came in the 23rd minute when Ryan MacBeth was able to latch on to an intelligent through ball from Paddy Boyle but the Queens keeper was sharp off his line and was able to smother Ryan's shot.
MacBeth was involved in Thistle's next chance when in the 30th minute his shot was turned round the post for a corner.
At the other end a Patrick Boyle error on the halfway line presented the home side with an opportunity but Boyle was able to make amends with a fine piece of defensive work at the edge of the Thistle box.
The half ended with Queen's Park spurning a good opportunity when a left wing cross was lifted over the bar from no more than 8 yards out.
The second half was a largely forgettable affair. The game had been heading towards a goalless conclusion for some time but Ryan MacBeth nearly conjured up an unlikely goal with 9 minutes remaining but his fierce shot from the edge of the box went just the wrong side of the post.
In goal for Thistle Craig Hinchcliffe dealt competently with what little came his way and he rounded off his night with a decent save after a rare shot on the Thistle goal.
Team: Hinchcliffe, Lochhead, Boyle, McDermott, Kinniburgh, Little, Dunbar (Trialist), MacBeth, Sweeney, Corcoran (Fraser), Bannigan.
