Partick Thistle Football Club

 Dundee After Match Reaction

Saturday 14th August 2010

It’s amazing the difference that seven days can make. Last Saturday there was an air of despair in the Thistle camp following a horrible 4-0 reverse in the opening league game of the season. Seven days on and Thistle were celebrating a 1-0 win against Dundee, our first victory against the Dens park club since a Mark Roberts goal gave us a 1-0 on April 1st 2008.

As you can imagine it was altogether more upbeat Thistle manager that spoke to www.ptfc.co.uk than the one we had spoken to a week earlier.

“I’m incredibly proud of the players, not least because it has been really, really hard at this football club since January. The players today were competing against players that are probably picking up two or three times the wages that they are on. I think the Thistle supporters would be really surprised if they were to truly understand the wage deferential between the two Clubs.”

“As I’ve said it has been a tough time for Partick Thistle since the turn of the year but I’m in support of what the Board of Directors are trying to do. They are trying to make sure that our football club survives for years and years to come, which we will.”

“I was really proud of the players today but I was also very proud of our supporters. I’m not being sycophantic  in the least when I say that they were absolutely magnificent this afternoon. Indeed it was good day all round for all associated with the Club. Players, staff and supporters.”

“We need to acknowledge the fact though just as the Raith Rovers game was just one game so too was this afternoon’s game with Dundee. It doesn’t make up for the loss to Raith Rovers but what it perhaps does make up for is the four defeats we suffered at the hands of Dundee last season when we deserved so much more.”

“It was good day all round with everyone contributing in some way but I would like to single out two players. I thought Paddy Boyle was outstanding and Ian Maxwell did really well coming in for his first game of the season. We felt that we needed to defend better and that’s why Ian came in. I felt that we did that and indeed in addition to the goal we did score I thought we had three or four other great chances to score.”
