Partick Thistle Football Club

 Youth Round Up w/c 29/08/10

Monday 30th August 2010

Just as the first team suffered disappointment against opposition from Fife at the weekend so too did our under 19 side, who went down to a 3-2 defeat against Raith Rovers yesterday at Beith Juniors.

Thistle made a dream start to this match with Mark Burbridge opening the scoring, his first goal for the Club since joining in the summer, after just five minutes play. Raith Rovers, however, hit back and after 40 minutes had raced to a 3-1 lead.

Kieran Burns pulled one back before the interval to give Thistle a lifeline but intensive pressure for 20 minutes after the break failed to produce a Thistle equaliser.

A soft penalty for Raith Rovers, converted after 65 minutes, effectively killed the game.

Raith Rovers were deserved winners. They were bigger, stronger, older and very physical. There were cards galore in this match, mainly yellow, but there was finally a red card for the Raith Rovers number 5.

Team: Scully, Pearce, Baxter, Hodge, Kennedy, Campbell, Lochhead, Bannigan, Fraser, Burns, Burbridge.

There was disappointment too for the Thistle under 17s. After going down to a 2-0 defeat against Celtic in their opening Glasgow Cup fixture of the season, they lost 2-1 to Forfar Athletic on Sunday.

Our under 15s had better luck at the weekend, defeating Queen of the South while our under 13 side went down to defeat against the same opposition.
